Kristen portrays Joan in movie The Runaways, about the 70s girlband featuring Joan. The rocker admits she was initially unsure about turning her life into a film, but seeing how much Kristen put into the role made her realise she’d made the right choice.
“I thought Kristen was brilliant. She really wanted to nail it, and she did a lot of studying – to the point where, when I heard her sing I Love Playing With Fire, I felt sure they were playing my vocals,” Joan explained. “And she was so great to work with, so down to earth, no head trips at all.”

A third new release, the docudrama “The Runaways,” about the all-girl rock band created by rock impresario Kim Fowley, debuted at No. 4 on the sales chart, behind “The Bounty Hunter,” the previous week’s top seller. Despite a cast that includes Kristen Stewart of “Twilight” fame, “The Runaways” grossed less than $4 million in theaters.
“The Losers” debuted at No. 3 on the rental chart, behind “Bounty Hunter,” while “The Runaways,” from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, bowed at No. 10.
On Nielsen VideoScan’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart, “The Losers” narrowly edged out “Cop Out” for the top spot, while “The Runaways” debuted at No. 6. According to Nielsen numbers, 51% of unit sales for “The Loser” were on Blu-ray Disc, compared with just 38% for “Cop Out” and 17% for “The Runaways.”

The Runaways is a story-driven initiation of the pioneering music female rock group, with written and directed by Floria Sigismondi, and we moved to Los Angeles in 1975. At that time Joan Jett (Stewart) and Cherie Currie (Fanning) are two teenagers in San Fernando Valley with ‘punk’ in their veins and desire to do something with their lives. Along with other girls, and under the tight control and influence of rock entrepreneur Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon), establishing the band The Runaways, which becomes a resounding success and a family of misfits. With its tough-girl image and her raw talent, the group takes to acquire a certain reputation, like its two main members: Joan is the soul of rock ‘n roll’ of the group, while Cherie, with her ‘look’ Bardot Bowie-style embodies a genuine freshness.
The film will at last hit our cinemas on September 10 through Aurum.
